In Fall 2022, I took Instructional Design with Professor Diane Kovacs. I chose this course because at my library, I was responsible for teaching library orientation and information literacy. While I was already teaching this seminars, I wanted to gain a better foundation of instructional strategies to be a better instructor. The entire course's assignments lead to creating a course proposal using the 7 Step Instructional Design Model as well as instructional materials needed.
This course gave me an excellent framework for instructional design that I have already implemented in seminars I teach. It also got me to think about evaluations - I have always used summative evaluation but now I implement formative evaluations throughout my teaching.
I also have explained andragogy (especially vs. pedagogy and its need for self-direction and being problem-centered) to so many people and in so many situations.
