Dr. Mojtaba Sharifi presented research outcomes in two workshops in the field of physically assistive robotics and showcased the industrial design of the ARMS Lab's lower limb exoskeleton in the "Arts in Robotics" session at the ICRA.
7th NorCal Control Workshop, Davis
Dr. Mojtaba Sharifi presented at the NorCal Control Workshop and gave a talk on the development and optimization of a control strategy for a lower limb exoskeleton, designed to assist in rehabilitation exercises for adults with total knee arthroplasty.
2024 ASME International Mechanical Engineering Congress & Exposition (IMECE), Portland
Dr. Mojtaba Sharifi presented four papers together with Asteya Laxmanan, an ARMS Lab's intern: "Synergy-Based Mechanical Design with Dual Actuation for 3 Finger Groups", "Design and Fabrication of an Upper Limb Exoskeleton for Shoulder and Elbow Assistance with Four Actuated DOFs", "Structural Design and Fabrication of a Lower Extremity Exoskeleton with Reconfigurable Hip Knee and Ankle Modules" and "Design and Development of a Portable Ergonomic Knee Exoskeleton with a Moving Center of Rotation".
Dr. Sharifi was a topic organizer and session chair for three tracks: "Biomedical and Biotechnology", "Advanced Manufacturing", and "Dynamics, Vibration and Control".
2024 IEEE/ASME International Conference on Advanced Intelligent Mechatronics (AIM) Conference, Boston
Dr. Mojtaba Sharifi presented two papers on active projects at ARMS Lab: "Autonomous Motion Planning for a Motorized Walker Using Potential Field and Admittance Control" and "Mechatronics and Control System Design of a Hand Exoskeleton with a Sensorized Soft Glove".
Dr. Sharifi was the chair and co-chair of two sessions on the "Modeling and Design of Mechatronics Systems" and "Planning and Navigation" sessions.

2024 SJSU College of Engineering Showcase, San Jose
The Student Showcase and Celebration hosted by the SJSU Davidson College of Engineering is an event that celebrates student innovation, research, and design. Six teams from ARMS Lab presented their projects on the design, development, and control of assistive devices to the audience. The hand exoskeleton team received the "Most Innovative Project" award.

The "RSCA in Five: Faculty Short Talks" series at SJSU promotes collaboration among faculty members. Dr. Sharifi participated in the series on "Human Factors/Human Tech Interaction" with a presentation about "Safe and Stable Human-Robot Interaction for Assistance and Rehabilitation".

An open house event was held to demonstrate our laboratory's cutting-edge equipment and ongoing research involving lower limb exoskeletons, upper limb exoskeletons, and smart walkers. This event aimed to connect with the community and attract potential new members to join our research endeavors. Our team contributed to this event by demonstrating different assistive devices developed at ARMS Lab to the public audience.

2022 IEEE International Conference on Robotics & Automation (ICRA) Workshop, Philadelphia
In this workshop, innovative ideas from experts and outstanding researchers who actively contributed to the field of HRI, CR, and AR were introduced to broaden the vision of the development of AI-based techniques, Machine Learning (ML) algorithms, and intelligent control schemes that can facilitate a balance between robot autonomy and human safety in various multidisciplined applications. The workshop was organized to include interactive keynote talks, round-table discussions, and poster presentations.
Dr. Sharifi organized an interdisciplinary workshop on "Intelligent Control Methods and Machine Learning Algorithms for Human-Robot Interaction and Assistive Robotics".
