The St. James Parish Virtual Academy is a program within St. James Parish School District that allows students to complete their coursework in a virtual setting, while still being connected to their home-based school. The program is designed to be a full-time, online, instructional program intended to deliver a standards-based curriculum. The instructional staff are Louisiana-certified teachers that are dedicated to giving instruction, supporting, and monitoring behind the scenes for student success.
Virtual Academy students often find that going to school online can take longer and prove to be more difficult in comparison to a traditional “brick and mortar” setting; however, with time-management and engagement, student success is optimal and an online learning environment is successful. In order to adequately set up for success, students should be spending 60 minutes per course per day in their online coursework. If you need help working out a personal schedule, staying motivated or creating an effective home learning environment, contact your teacher.
This handbook gives general guidance for parents and students enrolled in the St. James Parish Virtual Academy.
