Canvas is a web-based course-management system that enables students to access course content that instructors post online. Its features include a robust interface, an intelligent course calendar, course notifications, easy online submission for assignments, a simple dashboard that provides a comprehensive overview of all your classes and easy-to-use communication tools.
Accessing Canvas
Accessing Canvas
Canvas can be accessed from the MySJNY portal. Once logged into the portal, you can access Canvas by selecting the Canvas tile located under the SJNY Applications area.
The Dashboard (main page) should contain your current courses; however, clicking on the Courses button located on the far left in the blue navigation bar, will direct you to a full list of your courses.
**You will not see your courses located on the Canvas dashboard until your instructor has "published" the course to make it visible to students. In addition to the course being published, the instructor controls the date you can access the course.

It is recommended that all software (operating system, browser, Flash, Java, etc.) be completely up to date before the start of each semester.

Mobile Access to Canvas
Canvas App for Android and iOS: The Canvas app allows students to access their courses and groups using a mobile device. Students can submit assignments, participate in discussions, and view grades and course materials. The app also provides access to course calendars, To Do items, notifications, and Conversation messages. Download the Canvas app on Android and iOS devices.
