🧩 The Rubik’s Cube Event gives students a fun and exciting way to build problem-solving and spatial reasoning skills while enjoying friendly competition with other LEST participants.
How the Competition Works
All cubes (3x3) and timers are provided at the event.
Students compete in two 5-minute rounds (“best of two”).
Before each round begins, students have 15 seconds to look at the cube.
Their goal is to solve the cube so that each side has one matching color.
If a student does not finish within 5 minutes, the result is recorded as DNF (Did Not Finish).
Important Rules
Only the final position of the cube (when the timer stops) is judged.
The cube must be fully solved and properly aligned.
Slight misalignments may result in a small time penalty (+2 seconds).
More than one extra move needed means the cube is considered unsolved.
Students may not receive help or communicate with anyone except the judge.
Students must stop the timer properly (no slamming hands on the timer).
Failure to follow event rules or check in on time may result in disqualification.
Scoring & Awards
Each student’s best time from the two rounds counts.
Individual awards are given to the top performers.
Team awards are determined by combining the best times from each school’s participants to find the lowest overall total time.
Alternates are encouraged and must be pre-registered in case a student needs to participate in another LEST event.
This event is a great opportunity for students to challenge themselves, practice perseverance, and celebrate the joy of solving!
