In line with the Futures Leaders Program of the partner parties – Saint Joseph Institute of Technology Maritime Education and Training (SMET) and Teekay Shipping Company, a two–day parent-cadets orientation dating August 2 and 3, 2018, was held at Saint Joseph Institute of Technology Maritime Education and Training (SMET), Cubi-cubi, Nasipit, Agusan del Norte.
The orientation kicked-off around 0900H and ended at 1700H with a total of 340 attendees, 135 of which were cadets and 205 were parents and/or guardians. Spearheaded by the Saint Joseph Institute of Technology (SJIT) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Leticia C. Salas, Senior Vice President Dr. Nicole Salas with the Maritime Academy Dean, Captain Nestor A. Almero and the faculty alongside with the Teekay Shipping Company Manager for Global Training Standards and Competence, Captain Gilbert Maturan with Cadet Coordinator, 3rd Engr. Ray Marticion, the event briefed everyone about the program and its scope.
It focused on the nature, terms and conditions of the cadetship program and its worldwide adoption on the marine industry; the 21st century approach to learning; rules and regulations in the college and backgrounds of the two founding parties — SJIT and Teekay.
As a final phase of the two-day orientation, a formal signing of contracts was conducted to seal the agreements and those 135 cadets were legally hailed as scholars of the Future Leaders Program effective August 2 and 3, 2018.
