For learning and promoting the Maritime heritage and history of the Philippines, SJIT Maritime Education and Training (SMET) Online Publication, LAYAG Team carried out an educational field trip in the historical and informational sites of Butuan City last December 21, 2018.
The itinerary of the journey sequentially started from the Butuan City Hall at 0900H, then Butuan National Museum (0920H), next to the Balangay Shrine (1020H) and Buod Eco Park (1100H), and lastly to the Banza Church Ruin (1230H) and Balangay Building Site (1400H).
Composing of 24 LAYAG Staffers, 2 LAYAG Advisers and together with the Global Training Standards and Competence Manager of Teekay Shipping Company, Captain Gilbert Maturan and the Expedition Tour Guide, the Butuan City Tourism Assistant Julius Caesar Antimaro, the expedition commenced at exactly 0800H and concluded at 1600H respectively.
Butuan City Tourism Assistant, Julius Caesar Antimaro set forth the discussion by introducing the Butuan City Hall, and ended it at the Balangay Building Site.
As an outcome of the site exploration, the staffers were delighted about their gained knowledge especially in the maritime field.
“I feel proud in our country and as a seafarer after knowing this rich heritage and cultures in our region.” E/C Aldren Tapales said.
The expedition culminated by giving a Certificate of Appreciation to Butuan City Tourism Assistant, Julius Caesar Antimaro.
