SMET, in collaboration with the local Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Nasipit, initiated a seminar on fire prevention and fire-fighting topics, and carried-out earthquake, tsunami and fire drills at SMET campus last April 12, 2019.
The seminar involved discussion and collaborative interaction between participants. The simulated center of the earthquake was located at Butuan bay and reported a tsunami alert, sounded the alarms, executed duck & hold, evacuation, muster at station and directed to evacuation area at the roof deck of the academic building.
The faculty, headed by Capt. Nestor Almero - Dean of Maritime College directed the cadets on the proper countermeasures and safety procedures to follow.
Fire-fighting drill marked the highlight of the BFP seminar. Selected students were able to experience the job of a Firefighter which is highly applicable on their profession as seafarers.
