As per released of the Grantees List under the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES) scholarship program of the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act (UAQTEA) or RA 10931 on November 2018, there are 23 FLP Maritime students coming from SMET are included of the more than 13, 500 grantees of the said program.
Saint Joseph Institute of Technology, as one of the recognized Higher Education Institution (HEI) of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) acquired a total of 394 new TES scholars who need financial assistance.
Having an allocation of Php16 billion from Php40 billion budget, TES program under UAQTEA was approved by Pres. Rodrigo Duterte on Aug. 2017 to provide insurance aid to students that are categorized as “poorest of the poor” in both public and private HEIs.
Based on the UAQTEA or RA 10931 in the Tertiary Education Subsidy program, students will benefit the following:
• Covers tuition and other school fees in private schools.
• Covers living allowance and educational supplies and materials.
• Provides additional support for students with disabilities and / or those in courses required to undergo licensure exams.
“It is truly a big help for us poor Maritime students having huge expenses and tuition in this course.” E/C Joshua Mangala expressed, one of the beneficiaries.
The TES scholarship program started in 2018-2019 and will continually benefit poverty-situated students in the following years.
