Dorothy Cheoy began her musical journey at the age of four where her first instrument was the piano. Dorothy entered Sedaya College (UCSI University) in 1999 to pursue a Diploma in Music, majoring in piano. In the same year, Dorothy got acquainted with jazz singing, found her passion in it and took up vocals as her second instrument.

In year 2002, Dorothy completed her Bachelor Degree in Music in Middlesex University, London. Upon completion of her studies, she has also worked in Dames Alice Owen School as a peripatetic piano teacher guiding primary school students. Her love for jazz singing led her to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance, in London College of Music, Thames Valley University. It was here that she has been actively performing with big band. During these years, she was under the tutelage of both award winning BBC jazz vocalists, Anita Wardell and Tina May.

Dorothy currently teaches at St Joseph Institution International and Sri KDU International School. She is also an appointed choir conductor and coach at SMK USJ4 for four years and also teaches private classes on her own.
