A native of Kuala Lumpur, Cheryl started learning the piano at the age of 4 under the tutelage of Stephanie Ng, Cheong Ku Wing, Cheong Yew Cheong and Ng Chong Lim. At the age of 12, She then studied the viola with various teachers including Lee Kok Leong, Angela Lou, Toko Inomoto, and Sabine Toutain. She has attended both viola and chamber music ensemble masterclasses with Orfeo Trio, Lilian Green, Jassen Todorov, Lim Soon Lee and Guillaume Chilemme. Cheryl holds a master's degree in viola performance from University College Sedaya International (UCSI). She is currently a faculty member at the UCSI University and St Joseph’s Institution.

Cheryl has extensive experience in performing with various ensembles and orchestras in Australia, United Kingdom, France, and around Malaysia. She was a member of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and has performed in Brisbane, Australia during their December tour in 2012. She was also invited as one of the international musicians for the 2012 United Kingdom Fine Youth Musicians Festival at the Cadogan Hall, London, under the artistic direction of world-renowned cellist, Guy Johnston. She is also invited to perform with the American Festival Orchestra for the China Tour in December 2019 and Bachfest Malaysia for the 2020 Germany Concert Tour.

Founding member of the DSCH Quartet, She has received numerous recognitions for her ensemble playing, which includes full scholarship for her postgraduate studies in chamber music performance and the first prize from Académie-Festival des Arcs 2018 in France for her performance with the DSCH Quartet performing Debussy's String Quartet.

She is also very active in the Kuala Lumpur music scene as a tutti violist in the Klpac Orchestra, the ensemble KL String Project, Yin Chi Orchestra, Penang Philharmonic Orchestra, Kamerata Kuala Lumpur and Kuala Lumpur City Opera (KLCO). She plays regularly with the DSCH Quartet, and occasionally the Virama Ensemble, and Bachfest Malaysia. Cheryl is passionate in all genres of music. She has also performed for Dama’s musical production ‘Love Story’ in 2016, and has worked with numerous artists like Sheila Majid, Dato Siti Nurhaliza (Dato Sri Nurhaliza On Tour 2019), Nicholas Teo, and Dayang Nurfaizah. She often appears on TV programmes by Astro (Chinese Golden Melody 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and TV3 (Anugerah Juara Lagu 2017, 2019) as a musician.

Cheryl has a strong interest in early childhood education and string pedagogy. She enjoys working with students and has at least 7 years experience in teaching.
