About me
Proud graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology where I started in Bioengineering with hopes or working in prosthetics. However, switch majors after 2 years and completed a degree in Biomedical Sciences
Worked as a laboratory technician for 2 years to gain research experience in the lab of Dr. Michael Sellix. We studied the effects of circadian rhythm disruption on ovarian and uterine biology, focusing on the pathogenesis of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome.
After falling in love with research, entered graduate school and earned a PhD in the laboratory of Dr. James Palis at the University of Rochester. My thesis examined the role of signaling in embryonic formation of red blood cells.
Completed postdoctoral training in the lab of Dr. Laurie Steiner at the University of Rochester. We explored the genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that govern the formation of red blood cells with focus on diseases such as Congenital Dyserythropoietic Anemia, Myelodysplastic Syndrome, and Trisomy 21 (Down's Syndrome) associated blood disorders.
Teaching: I fell in love with teaching early on in my graduate career. I started teaching lectures and labs at institutions all over the Rochester community starting in 2014 and have been doing so ever since. I have taught courses ranging from Chemistry for Health Professionals and Anatomy and Physiology to Environmental Science and seminars on How We Die.
Research: Check out the Murphy Lab Research page for more details!
