Shifter for Deus Ex - "Removing the Suck" since 2002

One of the earliest things I attempted to do with Shifter was to resolve what I felt were some serious gameplay issues with the Deus Ex Multiplayer game. To me much of the Multiplayer functionality felt artificial and completely unrealistic, particularly the simplified inventory system. To that end and others I made a number of changes which set Shifter MP miles apart from the standard DXMP.
1) New Inventory system: It always felt illogical that a Plasma Rifle took up as much room as a Pistol in DXMP, particularly when the singleplayer game went to such lengths to provide clear distinctions when it came to weapon size. In Shifter MP weapons take up multiple slots, based on how big they are. Smaller weapons like Pistols still take up one slot, but larger items like the Assault Rifle take up two slots, and heavy weapons take up a full three slots. To accomidate this new system players have a full 6 slots available for normal weapons, with the Seventh and Eighth slots accomidating grenades and health items, respectively. These can be cycled through by using the Change Ammo button.
2) More available player models: Some of the fun of a multiplayer game is picking a character which represents you best. DXMP only offered 4 player models to choose from, giving you a minimal choice. Shifter MP, however, has incorporated all singleplayer NPC models into the available multiplayer model choices for a total of 93 selectable models. This includes major characters like Gunther Hermann, Walton Simons, Paul Denton, and Anna Navarre, as well as the non-unique characters like MiBs, MJ12 Commandos, Riot Cops, and even Children. There's nothing quite like the sight of a 10 year old shooting you in the face with a Sniper Rifle.
