This course provides a broad introduction to machine learning. Topics include: supervised learning (Linear/nonlinear regression, decision tree, and neural networks); cross validation; unsupervised learning (clustering and dimensionality reduction). The course will also discuss recent applications of machine learning, such as data mining, bioinformatics, speech recognition, and image processing.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have the following background:
- To be able to write a reasonably non-trivial computer program.
- Familiarity with the basic probability theory and linear algebra.
