Course Description

Fundamental Steps in Digital Image Processing, Components of an Image Processing System, Image Sampling and Quantization, Relationships Between Pixels, Linear and Nonlinear Operations, Some Basic Gray Level Transformation, Histogram Processing, Image Enhancement Using Arithmetic/Logic Operations, Basics of Spatial Filtering, Smoothing Spatial Filters, Sharpening Spatial Filters, Combining Spatial Enhancement Methods, Image Enhancement in the Frequency Domain, Image Restoration, Color Image Processing, Image Compression, Image Segmentation.

Prerequisites

Students are expected to have the following background:

  • To be able to write a reasonably non-trivial computer program.
  • Familiarity with the basic signal processing, probability theory, and linear algebra.
