2008 Golden Dragon Parade

And The Celebration of Lunar New Year in Chinatown, Los Angeles

Hello, Yao Chi here,

In 2006 Skadjer and I took the Metro Gold Line to Chinatown from Pasadena and had a great time. I have put together this page to consolidate ideas and plans for those of us who desire to attend the Golden Dragon Parade and Lunar New Years Festival in Chinatown of Los Angeles this year.

Suggested Schedule

1. When Saturday, February 9th, 2008 at a time to be agreed upon

2. Perhaps we could meet in Pasadena for breakfast at 8:00 A.M. at Denny's

3. Then after breakfast, say between 9:30 to 10:00 A.M. head over to the East Pasadena Gold Line Metro Rail Station and parking structure at Sierra Madre Villa and board the Gold Line. I think I will purchase the day pass. Fare Schedule

4. Take the Gold Line to Chinatown Station and disembark. It is only a short walk West to the main thoroughfare in Chinatown. MTA Gold Line Stations Map

The Schedule of Events for the Golden Dragon Parade is as follows

10:00 AM Lunar New Year Festival Opens

2:00 PM Golden Dragon Parade begins

5:00 PM parade concludes

8:00 PM Festival closes

5. If we want to, we can visit some of the restaurants in Chinatown for either lunch or dinner. I have no idea if the crowds attending the Festival and Parade are going to make this unappealing. But it is a thought.

6. Return to the East Pasadena Metro Gold Line Station and parking.

7. If eating in Chinatown does not take place, we could consider eating at any of myriad places in Pasadena. Might I suggest the Fu Shing Restaurant if we find ourselves in the mood for good Chinese food.

Regarding Photography

At the time of the day for which the parade itself is scheduled, the Sun will be well into the Western sky. Thus better lighting is available for photographers positioned on the West side of the street. Something to think about while making plans for the event. As reference, when we walk to the parade route from the Gold Line Chinatown terminal, we are moving West and will first arrive at the East side of the street.

So, How Will We Recognize One Another ?
