2020 - Covid-19 Loose Garment Coat

I took my favourite Issey Miyake coat pattern for this project, and some orange woollen fabric that's been sitting on the shelf for ages. No orange thread, but hey the local dairy had some. Had to line up to be admitted, but that was no problem.

Had to wait to get the felt I needed for the lettering, then cut each letter out by hand and blanket stitched them on. I enjoyed the whole process, and truly it didn't take that long.

I also had the striped lycra fabric, and thought, "hey, make a unitard!". What I really want with this costume is to make a video of it being worn and danced in. The Elizabeth Smither poem inspires me

My aim has been achieved!

Here is the lovely letter Kano wrote...

Good evening Ms Roy.

Sorry for sending you this email very late. I accidentally opened Outlook and I just saw the video so I thought I must let you know that I watched it finally!!! I haven’t seen the video with the credit because I cannot access it. It felt little bit weird to watch me dancing but I think I can pat myself!!!

Thank you for giving me this amazing opportunity, Ms Roy. I am very pleased that we got to know each other as we did this together. I am a really quiet student at school. I’m not strong enough physically and emotionally so I avoid extra school activities to keep the balance of my energy and to keep going. I wished if I was a person like who can participate in lots of things but I really can’t and I really understand this. So, I was really happy that I was doing something extra at school, and am really happy that I have a new teacher who knows me. Thank you so much for giving me opportunity and caring me. I’m very happy that you liked the dance and we finished making this work together.

I hope you have a wonderful summer holiday.

Thank you!

Sincerely yours,

Kano Yamato
