Never Before Seen

291 Million Years PE

Somewhere in the longdark swamp, a troop of squabgoblins (Trucidator sp.) and a bogglebird which has joined them for company awaken one autumn day, in the last light of the setting sun, to find that their marshy territory has been transformed into an eerie, smooth plain. A bitter cold snap unlike anything they have known in their lifetimes has frozen the water, turning it solid enough to stride across - with caution, but also curiosity at the phenomena. It may be the first time this has happened here in over 20 million years. This aberrant cold spell will end soon, and it will be forgotten.

But it is a hint of things soon to come.
