One hundred countries around the world have areas which are designated as national parks.
The world's very first national park was Yellowstone National Park, located in the United States, which was established in March, 1872.
The country with the largest percentage of land dedicated to national parks is Costa Rica, with 25.1%.
The country with the largest amount of land dedicated to national parks is Canada with 377,000 square kilometers.
The world's largest national park is the North East Greenland National Park, located on the Danish territory of Greenland, at 971,000 square kilometers.
The world's smallest national park is Moyenne Island, pictured below, located in the Seychelles, at 2.8 square kilometers.
The world's largest marine park is the Phoenix Islands Protected Area located around the island nation of Kiribati, which covers 408,250 square kilometers of the Pacific Ocean.
