Synopsis
The play is set in a post-apocalyptic future where a group of theatre artists and scholars convene to re-stage and discuss the historical significance of August Wilson’s Fences. The monumental event takes place in the exact location where they believe the original production of the play took place in ancient times, and the ensemble seeks to unearth the past through the re-staging. This is not as easy as it seems since the Great Storm has rendered much of the knowledge and customs of the Old World into fragmented remains, and four hundred years separate the Wilsonian Era from their present time. While the scholar and historian debate over the ritualistic aesthetics of ancient theatre practices and the actors plead to focus on the words of the play, the director Cumulus Arnald confronts the ghost of his famous father and struggles to maintain the financial support and approval of the fundamentalist Court. In the end, not everyone is who they say they are, illusion and reality are blurred, and in uncovering the past they discover the horrors of their current society.
