Purpose of the Wilson Gifted Education Network Grant

To provide financial assistance to the gifted students and the gifted support educators of the Wilson School District for projects, supplies, or programming that is not covered under current district cost centers or through other alternative resources. Awards are subject to the availability of funds.

Eligibility

Applicant must be an identified student of the Wilson School District’s Gifted Education Program or a Gifted Support Educator of the Wilson School District.

General:

Applications will be accepted on rolling basis throughout the school year.

  1. During the annual planning and budgetary process, the executive committee will determine the amount to be appropriated for the school year. If funds allocated are not distributed during the school year the monies will return to the general budget for the following year and may be reallocated.

  2. Application process

o Signatures on the Statement of Accuracy by all students involved in the proposal.

o Project budget/timeline (as applicable)

o Materials promoting/supporting the opportunity you are pursuing (e.g. website, flyer, pamphlet)

o Letter of support and permission from a parent/guardian of all participating students

o Letter of support from an advisor; a letter of support, from someone outside the family, must accompany the application if the monies requested are for a non-school sponsored event.

o Filled out questionnaire (attached)

  1. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

  2. Student applicant must have parental/guardian consent to participate in the planned activity.

  3. Student applicant must have signature from project mentor/gifted support teacher.

  4. Upon review of the initial application, applicant(s) may be invited to attend a WGEN meeting to make a formal presentation and be interviewed.

  5. If the allotted grant money will not cover the total cost of the project, documentation of additional funding for the project should be included.

  6. When possible, WGEN will make a check payable to the organization which is requiring the funding. When using funds for supplies, copies of the receipts for purchased items must be submitted to WGEN for reimbursement within 30 days.

  1. Applications will be reviewed in the order they are received and presented.

  2. Applicants may apply more than once during the school year. Only one grant per person/group will be awarded per year.
