Water Quality

We take part in UK WaterBlitz, a citizen science scheme currently run by Earthwatch and Freshwater Watch. This involves monitoring nitrates and phosphates at strategic points on our local waterways. The UK results can be seen here.

We have been pond dipping at Blackmoor Pond from late spring to late summer since 2018 when our Kingfisher Flyway project work carried out work on this pond. The purpose of this is to monitor the pond life and see if we can measure any improvements. It is also to improve our pond dipping skills! We use OPAL resources to help identify the mini-creatures we find and also their points based system to assess our pond. We also pond dip at Englemere pond once a year and are very happy to come and dip in your garden pond to help you find out what you have there. Please email us at ascot.wildlife@gmail.com for more information.
