The Antarctic Confederation of City Republics was founded 1990, but has a history going back to the 1970-ies, when the Republic of Mevu was created on the Antarctic mainland. Together with further states (South Mevu, Queen Maud Land, Waikoa, James Cook Land, PF Chile and German People's Republic), Mevu founded the Trans-Antarctic Treaties Organisation in 1973. In 1975, it was replaced by the Trans-Antarctic Confederation. In 1979, following re-settlement, the Antarctic Confederation of City Republics was formed, but did at that time not include the Pacific states, which had their own Pacific Confederation of City Republics. In 1990, these were merged into the current Antarctic Confederation of City Republics.

The capital of ACCR is Amundsen Harbour.
