NEWSLETTER

The Storyteller's Book of Poetry was published recently written by our

own Jimmy Carter (James G Carter) & illustrated by his granddaughters,

Felicia, Jennifer & Jessica Carter. The poems in the book are simple

stories that are told using words that sometimes rhyme.You can purchase

your own through Adobe eBook.

Mintie White School, designed by William Weeks in 1929 in a California

Mission-style & Radcliff School, designed by architect Ralph Wyckoff in

1917 were among five buildings to receive the local historic landmark Blue

Plaque Award. Many of us got our educational start in these schools.

IN MEMORY OF RICHARD TWITCHELL

Richard Twitchell died January 21 in his home in Watsonville. He was 66.

A native of Santa Cruz, Richard lived in Santa Cruz County his entire life.

He loved fishing & hunting. He was very involved with the Dad's Club

Tournament at Santa Cruz High School, where he worked for 25 years.

Richard is survived by one son, Richard Twitchell, Jr. of Washington, D.C.;

One daughter, Lani Jones; one brother, Rodney; two grandchildren.

Several WHS fellow students have died recently, Jerry Wemmer, Class of

'56, John Lintz, class of '54 & Chuck Keith, class of '56.

Ed Fagalde's mother, Ruth Margaret Fagalde died January 5 in

Watsonville. She was 91. A native of Corralitos.Mrs. Fagalde had been a

volunteer for PTA, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Little League & the YWCA. She

was YWCA woman of the year in 1985 & Watsonviile's Volunteer of the

year in 2000.Mrs. Fagalde is survived by two sons, Ed & his wife Adrienne

& son Jerry, daughter Bernice, eight grandchildren & 14 great

grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Louie.

Georgeann Cowles' father, George Herbert Cowles, a longtime farmer

who grew a variety of berries for seven decades & was a fourthgeneration

descendant of one of the first pioneer families in the Pajaro

Valley, died February 16. He was 97. A variey of blackberry, Cowles, was

named after him by Driscoll Strawberry & Asso. Inc. in 2004. Georgeann

said that he never stopped working up until the day he died. The night he

died, he thanked Georgeann for spraying the field to keep the weeds out.

Mr. Cowles is survived by his two daughters, Georgeann & Martha Lou;

four grandchildren & seven great-grandchildren.

Jeannine Hubbard's mother died March 2 in Watsonville. She was 91

years old. A native of Missouri, Mrs. Hubbard had lived in the \oca\ area for

81 years. She attended Aromas School & Hollister High School, where

she met the love of her life, Ellsworth Hubbard. They shared 69 years of

marriage. She is survived by two sons, Garth & Donald & daughter

Jeannine; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Hubbard's

husband Ellsworth preceded her in death.

Scott Rigor passed away suddenly March 25. He was 39 years old & the

son of the late Sidney Rigor, class of 1957. He was a graduate of WHS &

Sacramento State University. He was employed at Granite Construction as

an accountant.

Betsy Wong & her husband Al enjoyed a 15 day trip to China. They saw

some amazing sights during their visit. In Beijing, they visited the

Forbidden City., The Summer Palace, Tianmanmen Square & the Temple

of Heaven & Harmony. They walked on the Great Wall of China an

amazing experience. A trip to Xian, where they viewed thousands of Terra

Cotta warriors. A cruise down the Yangtze River & a visit to the 3 gorges

& then a visit to the largest dam in the world was breathtaking. They

topped off the trip with a visit to Shanghai & then to Hong Kong.

David Gilkison writes that he has moved to Prescott Valley, AZ. David

just returned from a 2 week trip to Peru with a group of friends. They saw

the Nasca Lines, Machu Pichu and Lake Taticaca, had dinner in a private

home, visited with Peruvians, saw many ruins from lnca times.

Sally England & Betty Sue & husbands spent 2 months in Australia &

New Zealand. They rode camels, held a koala, fed kangaroos &

crocodiles, went to a Rugby game & Australia Rules footie game, survived

the Outback, the Great Barrier Reef & were evacuated from Dunk Island

due to Cyclone Larry with winds over 200 miles a hour. New Zealand is a

beautiful country with the Alps, Fiords, Tasman Sea. Great place to visit.

Marilyn Morgan announces big news in their family. Son, Steve Lewis is

home after serving 6 months in Iraq, his 6th & hopefully his last. His wife &

4 children are happy to have him back home with them. He has just made

Master Chief & has taken a state side job for 2 years.

Pat Blair & Dr. Bill Reeves of Los Altos have announced their

engagement. No date has been set. Theyspent a week in London & Maui .

Life is hard! Luane Vidak & Pat visited Jan Blohm in North Carolina.

They flew to Charlotte & joined Jan & drove to Wilmington to do the tourist

thing. They stayed in Hampstead & saw the beautiful gardens, beaches &

historic sights. They saw the Dead Sea Scrolls in Charlotte, where they

were on exhibit.

Bob Osborn wrote that 2006 has proven to be an exciting year for his

son, Major Kevin Osborn. On Feb. 11, Kevin married his sweatheart,

Kathy Roach in Napa. Kathy has a son Luke, who the Osborns are glad to

add to their list of grandchildren. Kevin & family will be moving to CO. to

start their new life. Kevin retired from the Army, April 13 after serving 25

years. His overseas service was in Germany, Korea & Bosnia & the US.

Bob & Marlene are very proud of their son.

Ed & Adrienne Marmo Fagalde are moving. After enjoying their cabin at

Lake Afmanor, they have decided to live there permanently. They will be at

their new home May 24 at 353 Osprey Loop, Chester, CA 96020. Their

new house is located at Lake Almanor West. If you are in the area, give

them a call at 530-2594178. Bring your golf clubs, hiking boots, bicycles,

fishing poles or just a bottle of wine. And yes, there is snow in the winter

so they will be snowbirds & spend most of the winter in Palm Desert. This

will be a change for 2 people that have lived in Watsonville for 66 years.

Jerry Chin writes that he had a total ankle replacement surgery

performed Feb. 6 after many years of pain & suffering. This is leading edge

of orthopedic technology replacing surgical processes which were

failures in the past & may eliminate ankle fusion as an alternative to many.
