Dear 1957 WUHS Classmate,

Thanks for your response to our last letter. We received $2643.00 which is greatly

appreciated. We are well on our way with money for postage, deposits, etc.

Our second meeting was held Jan. 19th and Bud and Kathy Mann's home.

Attending the second meeting were: Pat Blair, Russ Bonnema, Adrienne and Ed

Fagalde, Clarice Giberson, Betty Sue Henry, Bud and Kathy Mann and Dan Pini and

his wife from Talent, Oregon.

We decided:

*on a tentative date of August 23, 1997, depending on availability of a facility. We'll

have a commitment for a firm date to you by August, 1996. It will definitely be in

August.

*on a 50's theme/casual dress.

*to consider a two-activity event, Saturday night/Sunday AM.

*to encourage "old" cars for display, Sunday AM.

*to request help from those of you who have ideas/material (photos, film, videos,

etc.) for a "nostalgia presentation".

Our next meeting is scheduled for May 15, 1996 at Bud and Kathy's home, 2930

Freedom Blvd., Watsonville. Please plan to attend if at all possible. We also need

help with addresses on our missing list.

THANKS to all of you for updating us on your past 39 years. Here's some lastest news:

*Bob Dixon has moved to Carson City, Nevada. A special thanks to Bob for sending a

large amount of "seed" money to help get our reunion rolling.

*Marilyn Bogisich writes from Atlanta, Georgia. They are renting out rooms in their

home for the 3 week Olympics. If, you are planning a trip there write to her and reserve

a room.

*Peg O'Farrell sends her greetings from Alaska and announces the birth of their fifth

grandson. She and her husband went to Germany to meet their new grandson. They

also took a 14 day cruise through the Panama Canal. Thanks for the great picture of

your family, Peg.

*We are happy to announce that Jackie Opdyke is no longer on the "missing list". She

was found in Reno!!! Jackie and her husband have 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

She and her husband work together. He is a very fine trumpet player, and she plays

piano, and composes music. They travel alot playing concerts. Their newest CD will be

available in music stores in early '96, titled Jackie & Mark, "Lovers Love Trumpet".

*Bobbie Smith and her husband Earl, have recently moved to Los Banos.

*Patricia Vaughan had surgery on both of her hands recently.

*Dennis Blum and his wife recently moved to Sulfer, Oklahoma after living several

years in Mexico.

*Dot Mello and husband have moved to Merlin, Oregon after 25 years in Phoenix.

Merlin is a little town of 1778 population, 10 miles from Grants Pass. Whenever they

are in Medford, they stop in to see Dan Pini and his wife.

*Edna Reimer is a RN in a large hospital in Portland, Oregon.

*Charlene Corrigan's twin daughters are college freshmen. Claire went to Smith

College and Carin to Pomona College.

*Ken Dobler and his brother were named "Farm Family of the Year" in Santa Cruz

County.

'Clarice Giberson has started a counseling business, College Goals Work, to help

people through the complex career/college planning process.

*Judy Johnson & husband spend their summers in Camas Valley, Ore., on ten acres

they purchased for their retirement. The rest of the year is spent in Grass Valley where

they are teachers.

*Helen Fowle lives in and works for an engineering firm in Grass Valley with all men

where she gets "no respect", but has loads of fun.

*Yoshi Yoshida was married in August, 1957. Has anyone been married longer than

Yoshi??????

*Nancy Wynne has a 1955 Chevy parked in her garage in Fresno. How about showing

it off at our reunion?

*The ABC Trio comprised of Adrienne Marmo, Betty Sue Henry and Carolyn Pettus are

still singing together. Mostly for over-the-hill parties!!!!!

*Joan Mezger graduated from West Valley College. She is a paralegal-attorney. In

Sept., she received a Cochlear Implant. She can now hear so many things that she

hasn't been able to hear in 25 years. She is still in the stages of having the processor

programmed so she will even gain more hearing as time goes on. Good news!!!!

*Helga Nielsen has moved to Lewiston, Ca. two year ago after her marriage.

*The Fagaldes, Beukers, Marcerons and Wrathalls renewed their friendships at our

30th reunion. They get together several times a year.

'Three of our classmates live in Bainbridge Island, Washington; Georqeann Cowles

Jim Whyte and Ralph Shugart.

'Brad Johnston is living in Conshohocken, Penn.

'Nancy Bilicich is the new WHS principal.

'Carroll Cameron is celebrating 25 years in business this month. He ownes the Paiaro

Valley Lock Shop here in Watsonville.

'Dave Willey lives in San Francisco. He teaches ESL to adult immigrants in San

Mateo. Before his teaching job he was a soldier, mail carrier, social worker cab driver

and attorney. ' As a Cabbie in San Francisco. he had such illustrious passengers as

Mike O Connell and Jean Pogue. He is a runner and runs in Jim Belcher's Mothers'sh

Day Run here in Watsonville each year.

*A special thanks to Babe McVary for finding so many of our missing classmates.

Roger Ferree died of lung cancer Sept. 17th. Jim Jensen also died of cancer Auq 21

Deceased classmates include; Galen Ashcraft, Harold Bailey, William Bell, George

Bilyew, Doug Corley, Gerald Coulston, John Covington, Jim Dicus, Rita English

MaryLou Gregory, Jim Jensen, Dave Kennard, Yutaka Nagai, Jim Perry, Barbara Pritchard

Rita Richie, Manuel Solano, Nick Scurich, Ed Smith, Karen Snyder, Karen Stone and

Gladys Steele. Any mistakes, please let us know.

'Several of our classmate's parents have died lately; Bill Beecher's mother, Stan

Winyick's mother, Ralph Shugart's father, Richard Twitchell's mother and father Sally

England s mother, Mary Ann Edward's father and the late Nick Scurich's mother

'"Many of you asked about some of our faculty members This is what I know

'Miss Blanchard is alive and well, still living on Bowker Rd. in Watsonville She is verv

active as a volunteer at our local hospital.

'Mr. Devine has retired from teaching at WHS/ Aptos High School

*Mr. Haney works for Pajaro Valley Golf Course and gets to golf everyday

*Mr Gene Johnson retired but continues to be ass't football coach at Cabrillo College

*Mr. Sauer left WHS as a teacher and became an administrator for the district. He has

since retired.

'Mr. Slavich retired and lives in Watsonville.

'Miss Tamisiea is in a rest home in Iowa.

'Miss Thompson has retired.

*Mr. Staley lives in Aptos and continues to teach swimming to younq children He and

his wife also enjoy traveling.

'Mr. McCombs left WHS to become a principal for the district. He was Adrienne

Marmo s principal at Rio del Mar School and Betty Sue Henry's at MacQuiddv. He

was great to work for. He retired several years ago.

'Miss Pogue has retired and continues to ski with the WHS students

'Miss Lord is in a local Nursing Home.

'Mr. Moser lives in Rio del Mar and is retired.

'Mrs. Roark is 91 years old and is losing her eye sight. She lives with a care -giver

Mrs. Severin retired and runs a catering company

'Mr. and Mrs. Bilicich have retired.

'Mr. Yarnes retired and lives in Santa Cruz County.

Watsonville High School Wildcatz Football Team, loses after seven straight years as

CCAL champions. We shall not soon forget the highlights....The long breakaway runs

of Layton Clark,...The rugged, roughhouse play of tackle Marvin Marinovich...The solid

dependability of the captains, All-CCAL players Ken Blanton at end and Dick Hardy at

halfback...Or end Lloyd Uehara's magnificent performance in that last, unforgettable

game with Santa Cruz. We won by one point.

Our Scholarship Club elects Jerry Baker as president. Members that showed up for their

Manzanita picture were: David Willey, Tatsuo Hane, Clarice Giberson, Lorene Dyer,

Georgeann Cowles, Mary Ann Flath, Doris Davis, Bob Fenner, Brad Johnston, Roger
