Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!! That about covers it all!

This is the bi-annual Class of '57 Newsletter. Hope everyone has had a good year &

looking forward to 1999.

'Have you joined the 60 Club? Members include Pat Hewett, Carole Hiatt, Ed Fagalde

& Bud Mann. There will be many more next year as we all celebrate our BIG 60!!

Congratulations to the four charter members.

'John Alaga gave his little princess, Cindy away August 27. Cindy was married to

Justin Bettencourt at the Holy Eucharist Church in Corralitos. Cindy is a paralegal in

Santa Clara.

'The Salsipuedes Little League had a great season this year, making it all the way to

the championship series in Suisun City, CA. Happy grandparents watching their

grandchildren were, Dick Hardy, Betty Bjur, Mike Larkin & John Alaga. Their grand

children are, Aaron Holly, Johnny Bjur, Justin Green & Jason Alaga which made up

the most important players on the All-Star Team.

'Gary Costa retired June 1 from Southern California Gas Company. He was employed

with them for 35 years. He writes that he is looking forward to the next reunion.

'Betsy Wong plans to retire in two years. This past summer they traveled to Quebec

City, Montreal, Boston, Portland & Corvallis Oregon & Reno. Their oldest daughter,

Cathy announced her engagement in April. She will be married in Los Gatos Dec. 20

of this year.

'Bud Mann retired in Nov of '97 from Western Farm Service. He keeps busy with his

apple orchard located behind their home. Bud & Kathy have some new additions to

their family. Grandson, William Francis Salady was born March 23 to daughter Carrie.

They call him "Will". On July 1, they welcomed twin boys, Sam & Mick Mann, named

after their grandfathers. Their oldest son, Chris & his wife Mary Jo are the parents.

The family recently moved to Capitola.

'Jason Allen was born May 30, reports grandma, Marilyn Stromberg. Marilyn's son

Kevin is the proud father.

'Mr. Norm Haney is recovering from a triple by-pass surgery. While playing golf, he felt

dizzy & was taken to the hospital. He is doing well.

'Betsy Corrigan's father died earlier this year after a brief illness. Mr. Corrigan came to

Watsonville in 1955. He worked as a broker in produce until his retirement in 1983. He

leaves his wife, Maybelle; three sons, Jeff, Jack, & Tom; two daughters, Bets &

Barbara; 14 grandchildren, & 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his

first wife, Elizabeth & son-in-law, George Strohl, Bets' husband.

'Caroline Richardson's father, Alvin Richardson, a lifelong resident of Watsonville,

died following a brief illness. Mr. Richardson was a second generation native of Pajaro

Valley. He attended Watsonville High School where he played football, basketball &

ran track. He was a farmer. He leaves three daughters, Bernice, Mabel & Caroline; 10

grandchildren & 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife.

'Gemma Luporini, mother of Angie died June 5. She was 99. Mrs. Luporini, a native of

Italy, had resided in Watsonville since 1937. She leaves one son, Charles; daughter

Angie; five grandchildren & six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by

her husband, Angelo.

'Manuel Statua's mother, Philomena Statua died July 21. She was 100. Mrs. Statua

was born on her family's ranch on Gaffey Road in Watsonville. She leaves her son,

Manuel & two daughters & 11 grandchildren She was preceded in death by her

husband, Manuel.

'Bill Daniel's mother, Victoria (Vickie) Daniel died unexpectedly August 29. She had a

stroke while she was picking a bouquet of flowers in her garden. Mrs. Daniel was born

in West Virginia, moving to Watsonville in 1953. She enjoyed being a homemaker.

She is survied by two sons, Joseph & Bill and a daughter Brenda; four grandchildren;

four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Harry died in 1993.

'Terre Skillicom's brother Ron died Sept. 23. He was 63. Mr. Skillicorn was a teacher

in Palo Alto High School & a member of the San Jose Barber Shop Chorus. He leaves

his wife, Carol; children, Brent, Dirk & Deon; mother Dorothy Skillicorn; brother Dick &

sister, Terre & five grandchildren.

'Frances Tanimura of Japan visited Watsonville this summer. Several of us, Carole

Hiatt, Pat Hewett, Betty Henry, Betsy Wong, Marilyn Morgan, Sally England, Terre

Skillicon, Clarice Giberson joined her for lunch. Much to our surprize we had two

other special guests, Bev Clements of Texas & Bonnie Hatley of Sacramento. Frances

is a teacher in Japan. She & her husband have one son.

'Russ Bonnema & Colleen Connor were married August 1. They are living in Aptos.

Russ & Colleen started dating after our reunion. Congratulations!!! They have 4

children between them & 3 grandsons. Russ is retired & Colleen works in Soquel.

* Adrienne Marmo, Carolyn Pettus, Betty Henry & their husbands spent a great week

this summer at Fagalde's cabin at Lake Almanor. The guys enjoyed boating,

canoeing, & golfing while the gals spent their time shopping & eating hot fudge

sundaes at the soda fountain in Chester. The following week Sylvia Armstrong spent

some time at the cabin too.

* Seventeen girls met for lunch in August & celebrated Carole Hiatt's BIG 60 & our

newest bride, Colleen's recent wedding. Those attending were, Bev Sampson, Kathy

Crossno, Nancy Wynne, Sally Endland, Adrienne Marmo, Betty Henry, Carolyn Pettus,

Pat Blair, Pat Hewett, Diana Casini, Angie Luporini, Marilyn Morgan, Diane Robey,

Betsy Wong, Janet Tindall & Margaret Day.

'Ray Hermosillo has new twin grandsons. Brandon Michael, 4 lbs., 15 oz. & Matthew

Raymond, 5 lbs., 5 oz. were born August 7 in Santa Cruz. They have each gained about

5 lbs. since their birth. Ray's son Michael Hermosillo is the proud father.

'Bill Perez is employed by Driscolls here in Watsonville.

'All aboard for AMTRAC, heading from Salinas to Seattle....Marilyn Morgan, Pat

Hewett, Betty Henry, Les & Joyce (Lewis) Roth, class of '58 & their spouses plus two

other couples left by AMTRAC to Seattle for a cruise to Alaska, Sept 5. We had a great

time eating, exploring, eating, shopping, & eating some more. We are looking forward

to our next cruise

'Carole Hiatt retired from Bank of America after 29 years. Carole lives in Aptos &

keeps busy taking classes at Cabrillo including a golf class & serving as president of a

local sorority.

'Hailey Elizabeth Severns arrived safely, Oct. 21 after 18 hours of labor & an

emergency c-section. Gamby Nancy Wynne is holding up well considering all her

daughter, Julie went through. Hailey was born in Fresno & weighed 7 lbs & 2 oz.

'Victor Griffith's father, Hugh Griffith died Oct. 15. He was 93. Mr. Griffith came to

Watsonville from Texas, 53 years ago. He leaves five children, Vaunda, Hugh, Victor,

Lillian & Betty; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren & great-great

grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ida Mae, in 1995.

'Clarice Giberson welcomed her first grandchild, Oct 1. Andrew Lewis Wiggins

weighed 5 lbs., 14 oz. & surprized his parents, Richard & Tanowo Wiggins by arriving

three weeks early. Andrew was born in Seattle & was named after his great-grand

mother Lewis.

*l heard from Neal Holbrook by phone. He is in Watsonville for a couple of weeks &

will be receiving medical care in the Bay Area. Neal has a 10 year old daughter, Lin.

The Holbrook family make their home in Thailand.

'Bob Osborn is a new grandpa. His son, Kyle & his wife adopted 2 year old Brian in

October. The family makes their home in Denver.

'Dick Hardy's son Rick announced his engagement to Carrie Arthur. They will be

married in July, 1999. Rick is a teacher in Santa Clara.

'Margaret Day is taking two classes at Hartnell College. She is an art student there .

Margaret's husband Chuck Foster is a part-time instructor at Cabrillo College in the

Administration of Justice Program.

Ronald Britvec's mother, Elodie died Nov. 4, she was 84. She had lived in Watson

ville 50 years. She leaves 2 sons, Mark & Ronald & 2 daughters, Emilie & Patricia; 4

grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren. Her husband Mark & son Arthur died earlies.
