Please let Russ Bonnema know if you have a classic car for our car show. Ten
members of our class have already responded so if you want to participate, let Russ
know right a way. We have other WHS graduates from other classes that want to show
their cars but we really want to give our class members first chance.
The Reunion Committee will publish a Class of '57 Memory Book with alumni
biographies and pictures. Please send us information about you, your family, where
you have lived and are currently living, occupations, businesses, hobbies, travels,
military service, future plans, etc. Include current pictures (no negatives), business
cards or memorabilia we can include. The memory book will be given to you the night
of our reunion plus all pictures will be returned to you. We are asking you to have all of
your information and pictures in by June 15th so that the memory book can be
completed before August 23rd. We will not be taking any pictures (professionally) that
night so please help us make this the best memory book yet. You are encouraged to
send in any family pictures as well. Please write your name on the back of all pictures.

Information about your Reunion Committee Members:
Kathy Crossno & Bud Mann: Bud and Kathy are still at 2930 Freedom Blvd, 32 years.
They started farming their 15 acres of Newtown Pippins last year and loving it. Kathy
learned how to drive the John Deere. She also drives to San Jose 2 times a week (not
in the John Deere) to take care of her granddaughter Jane, born July 25, 1996. They
strongly recommend grandparenthood. Kathy serves on the Santa Cruz County of
Education Governing Board. She plans to run again in 1998. There is a lot to learn
about education & politics. Bud & Kathy still sell trees to local orchardists, 20 years
now. Bud manages Watsonville Branch of Western Farm Service and took golf lessons
this year. He is also a sharpshooter. They are planning their first trip to Europe in May
1988 from Virginia when her husband Richard (Class of '55) retired from the Army.
They are now pursuing second careers. Clarice is teaching 4th grade at Mintie White
and loving it! Fourth graders are keeping her feeling young, at least young at heart.
Adrienne Marmo & Ed Fagaide: Ed is retired from PG&E & Adrienne is still teaching.
She has know idea what he does all day but she is spending her days in the
classroom with seven year olds who tell her she's beautiful. That's why she teaches!!!!
Where else is she gonna hear that????They love their Lake Aimanor cabin and spend
their summers there. It's far enough away from Watsonville where you can wear a
bathing suit & not worry about looking the way you once said "I would never look!"
Adrienne's mother is still living and is 96 and doing well. Brother John runs the ranch
at Pinto Lake and both sisters live nearby. Ed's brother,. Jerry, has a ranch in Texas.
His mother & sister reside in Watsonville. Life is great and they are very happy.
Saiiy England: Saliy retired last year from teaching first grade. She is now a full time
cook and gardener at home. They grow most of their own produce and are always
looking for new ideas for what to do with all that zucchini they can't give away.
Pat Hewett: Pat has lived in Watsonville for the past 50 years. She has been married
for 38 years to Jim Klay. They have three wonderful sons & four beautiful
grandchildren. They are both retired and travel in their 5th wheel trailor on golfing
vacation with friends. They have a cabin in the mountains on Highway 88 near
Jackson that they visit often, fishing & just relaxing. They are really enjoying their
retirement and good health.
Betty Henry: Shortly after High School graduation, Betty moved to Pasadena to begin
her college education. There she met her husband, Allen. After graduation, they both
started their teaching careers in Azusa. In 1968, they moved to Watsonville. Allen
taught at Aptos High and Betty at MacQuiddy. Betty became interested in deaf
education and went back to college to learn sign language & taught at the Thomley
School for the Deaf. In 1994, they both took early retirement, and now work, part-time
as sales reps for Ghirardelli Chocolate, manage their rentals, and own Shaboom
Enterprises (1950's memorabilia & classic cars). Their three children are graduates of
WHS. Their son, Greg is the offensive football coach at WHS. They have nine grand
children. They love traveling and being with their family.
Leland Smith: Leland graduated from UC at Berkley and the California College of
Podiatry. He has been practicing as a Podiatrist in San Mateo, California for the last 21
years. He has been married for 30 years and has two children, Sherrie and David.
Leland enjoys tennis and Porsche cars. He recently developed & patented an
orthopedic foot device. He traveled to Berlin, Germany to develope the product with a
German orthopedic company. Leland and his wife live .in Foster City and enjoy the
area.
NEWS from Watsonville:
Frank Harris is a new grandpa!! His grandson, Evan Ford Peterson was in born February.
Clifton Iverson died Jan.6. He was 90 years old. He was an instrumental music teacher
for many of us during our elementary school days and also Loren and Jerry Iverson's
father.
Bob Bauer, Class of '58 died of a heartattack in February. He lived in Arizona at the
time of his death and leaves 5 children.
Marie Miskow's sister Cathy, Class of '56 died this month.
Kathy Crossno's mother died March 8th. She leaves her daughter; three grandchildren
& one great-grandchild. Our love & sympathy to Kathy and her family.
Dr. Ehler Eiskamp celebrated his 100th birthday March 8. I'm sure he delivered many
of our class members. He was 84 when he retired from the practice of medicine, after
doctoring the people of Watsonville since 1925. Still bright-eyed and interested in
local and world events, Dr. Eiskamp is not sitting home doing nothing. He keeps active
enjoying his many friends and playing cards. Dr. Eiskamp came to Watsonville upon
graduation from medical school at Stanford University on the recommendation of his
professor of surgery. He was the first accredited surgeon with formal surgical training
in the Monterey Bay area. When he came to Watsonville, there was a small hospital
but no ambulance. If someone was badly injured, rescuers would pick up the patient
in a truck and bring them to the hospital. All of his colleagues, his patients, everyone
loves him. He's a lovely man and still a character. Dr. Eiskamp was on the board of
Watsonville Community Hospital for 52 years and was president of the Santa Cruz
Medical Society twice. He was named Rural Physician of the Year in the 1980's by the
California Medical Association, who said of him that he exemplified "the best aspects
of old-time medicine." He has one son, John, Class of '56. A private birthday party
was held for him at the Miramar Restaurant, with about 80 friends and family attending.
What does it take to arrive at the century mark? "A lot of luck, a little bit of heredity and
do everything in moderation." Happy Birthday, Dr. Eiskamp from your many
patients
It was great hearing from Janice Baird from Davenport, Aran Ardaiz from Hawaii,
Doug Otis from Fresno, Edna Reimer from Portland, Oregon, and Bob Dixon from
Carson City, Nevada this month. We look forward to seeing them at the reunion.
Frances Tanimura Schwamm writes from Japan that she is hoping to attend the re
union. Her email address is <schwammf@emh.yokota.af.mil.
