Effective May 2, 2016, weekly curbside collection of yard trim/waste will be collected year round on MONDAY ONLY! Yard trim/waste includes grass clippings, leaves, small branches, brush and Christmas trees.
Effective January 1, 2014, residential curbside yard waste/trim collection is no longer be accepted in plastic bags. Residents should place their yard trim/waste loose in a collection can or use large, yard waste paper bags. This change is in direct response to legislation passed by the Prince George's County Council for the purpose of amending the County Recycling Program to meet updated recycling goals. Acceptable Containers
Yard trim/waste may be placed in heavy-duty paper bags, or heavy-duty trash cans with handles and a secure lid. Cans must be clearly labeled "Yard Waste" or "Yard Trim" to ensure collection. Cardboard boxes are not acceptable containers.
Items Collected
Limbs collected curbside must not exceed 4 feet in length and 3 inches in diameter and must be securely tied in bundles. Bundles of limbs, bags and/or cans of dry grass and leaves must weigh less than 60 pounds. Wet grass and leaves must weigh less than 25 pounds.
The proper disposal for bamboo is to be prepared like yard waste no longer than 4 feet and tied in bundles placed out to be collected with the trash.
Once the yard trim/waste is collected, it is taken to the Prince George's County Yard Waste Composting Facility. This county-owned and operated composting facility processes over 50,000 tons of yard trim/waste annually.
