Call for Papers & Presentations

OBSA 2013 CALL FOR PAPERS

(Deadline: 30 June 2013)

CONFERENCE THEME:

WHAT IS OCEANIC BIBLICAL INTERPRETATION?

Is it possible to talk about Oceanic Biblical Interpretation (OBI)? What defines/characterises OBI? What contributions can it bring to biblical scholarship and interpretation? Where does OBI begin? To what end? For whom? How shall one go about doing it? What is the limit of OBI? These, and other related, questions will be the focus of OBSA 2013. The main objective of OBSA is to foster biblical scholarship and research in Oceania by taking seriously the Oceanic context—its cultures, knowledge traditions, belief systems and methodologies. It is therefore imperative that papers presented at this meeting are attempts to understand the Bible from varied Oceanic perspectives. For this year, we are especially hoping for papers that deal with the conference theme/question. Alternatively, papers can focus on:

· addressing issues that arise from teaching biblical studies within Oceanic/Pacific contexts.

· offering alternative methods for biblical interpretation. This is an opportunity to introduce and showcase indigenous hermeneutics and methodologies

· tracing the history (reception, translation and use) of the bible in the various islands of Oceania and its impact on Oceanic cultures and vice versa.

· other themes/issues that are deemed relevant and appropriate.
