Throughout the year, Wat Lao Saysettha hosts a variety of religious, cultural, and community events, each supported by numerous volunteer projects and creative arts and crafts activities. These projects play an important role in preparing for our celebrations while helping preserve and share our rich Lao heritage and traditions.
Volunteering at the temple is more than simply completing a project—it is an opportunity to connect with others, build meaningful friendships, share laughter, and strengthen our sense of community. Whether you are an experienced volunteer or joining us for the first time, there is always a place for you. Every contribution, big or small, is valued and appreciated.
We warmly welcome everyone to participate. If you are interested in volunteering or would like to learn about our current projects and upcoming events, please contact the temple by phone or email. We look forward to welcoming you and working together to support the continued growth and success of Wat Lao Saysettha.
Our volunteer arts and crafts projects vary throughout the year and are closely connected to our religious festivals, cultural celebrations, and community events. These hands-on activities provide meaningful opportunities for individuals and families to work together while preserving and celebrating Lao traditions.
Candle Making – Create handcrafted candles for temple ceremonies, festivals, and special occasions.
Gardening & Temple Beautification – Help maintain the temple grounds by planting flowers, caring for gardens, and enhancing the beauty of our sacred space.
Money Trees – Assist in preparing traditional money trees for temple celebrations and fundraising events. Money trees are created for many of our annual events and are a cherished symbol of generosity and merit-making.
Wood Carving – Participate in woodworking projects that support temple improvements and decorative displays.
Stencil & Decorative Art – Design and create decorative artwork used throughout the temple during festivals and special events.
Quilting & Sewing Projects – Help transform donated sinh (traditional Lao skirts) into decorative tote bags and other handcrafted items. These unique creations support fundraising efforts for the Lao Dance Program and other temple initiatives.
Lotus Flower Floats (Kathongs) – Volunteers create beautiful lotus flower floats for the annual Loy Krathong Festival, celebrated during the conclusion of Ork Phansa. This cherished tradition symbolizes gratitude, renewal, and the practice of letting go of negativity while honoring the Buddha and giving thanks to the water. Creating these handcrafted floats is a meaningful way for families and community members to work together while preserving an important Lao cultural and Buddhist tradition.
