Waimarama Marae held their Paua Reseeding Project November 28th, Whanau Ora Day on Dec 16th, Rangatahi Leadership Camp Dec 16th – 19th 2011. Each of these intitatives are about reconnecting our rangatahi/ whanau with their papa kainga, turangawaewae, tikanga and whakapapa.

The Paua Reseeding initiative is a joint venture with NKII and the Paua Industry and involved the reseeding of 30,000 paua seeds in our traditional paua beds that have since been ravaged by poachers. The aim being to replenish our paua stocks for future generations. All paua seeds were planted by whanau/ rangatahi and tamariki at Ohinemakawe and Taingamata and involved trekking over whanau whenua to access these bays. A great day was had by all and finished with a hakari and porporaki at the Marae. 18 Rangatahi, 12 Pakeke, 12 Tamariki and 8 Kuia/koroua participated. We are planning to put a Rahui for Paua on this area to preserve our seedlings.
