New Wood Boiler Heater System Launched

On 29 August the Marae in partnership with TPK and HBDHB launched the wood boiler heating system for the Kaumatua flats. This project involved insulating all the flats x 6, and the construction of the heating system based on the latest wood burning technology. The kaumatua commented that since the fire has been heating the flats they have experienced improved health outcomes. One kuia was admitted into hospital 3 times last winter and this year she has yet to be admitted. According to TPK, This is a first of its kind for Aotearoa so other regions will be looking at it as a pilot. Although Uncle Dave Stone is now retired from TPK, he was a key participant in our journey and came to support the launch. Both agencies commented that it has been a successful collaboration between themselves and the Marae and bodes well for future Joint initiatives.
