When the VMA voted to expand for the 2018-19 season, they determined Ian Malone would be awarded a franchise. He was full of grand ideas for his clubs entry into the coveted league. But, like a lot of things, ideas cost money. And so for the first season, those ideas had to wait. In the clubs inaugural season, expectations diminished quickly as the "Swamp Donkeys" got off to a rocky start (0-9-0). But with two major trades yielding High Glass Bly and Loverboy McGovern, the Donks improved and went on a respectable (4-7-0) stretch heading into the postseason. High hopes ended in disappointment falling to the Ducks in the wildcard game, 5-1.
But hope springs eternal. And since Malone had filled his club's roster a pack of Irishmen, the grand idea was able to come to fruition for season two. Better late then never. The "Donks" changed to their true name (once they had proper funding) the Mad Lads. They are sure to come in hot tempered and running on whiskey playing in the VMA.
