Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships – The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
Rationale: I created a handout for parents/ guardians describing how and why I will incorporate Social Emotional Learning in my classroom. I chose this artifact because it allowed me the opportunity to welcome them into my classroom. It also gave me an opportunity to share what SEL is and how I will incorporate it into my lesson.
Standard Connection:
Knowledge Indicators – The competent teacher: 8C) collaborates with others in the use of data to design and implement effective school interventions that benefit all students; (I understand the importance of teamwork. I work as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents/ guardians, and community members to build Collaborative Relationships for SEL development .
Performance Indicators – The competent teacher: 8J) works with all school personnel (e.g., support staff, teachers, paraprofessionals) to develop learning climates for the school that encourage unity, support a sense of shared purpose, show trust in one another, and value individuals; ( I meet with staff, teachers, and administrations to create programs and clubs for students to be successful in and out of the classroom.
Self- Evaluation- I am confident in my proficiency related to this standard. One of my strengths is that I work well with others. I do not object to working in groups. One of my weakness related to this standard is time management. Going forward, in order to be more successful in this standard I will continue to work on my time management skills .
