Video Surveillance Technology Evaluation and Research Group
ViSTER is a multidisciplinary community that brings together researchers from academia and government working in the field of video-surveillance and analytics, including face recognition in video.
The group is lead by the University of Ottawa's School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and is open to partnerships with other groups, organizations and individuals in Canada and abroad.
Acknowledgement
The foundation for establishing the ViSTER group came from the PROVE-IT(VA) and PROVE-IT(FRiV) projects led by the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) Science and Engineering Directorate with the University of Ottawa's School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) and Université du Québec's École de technologie supérieure (ETS), under the funding from the Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC) Centre for Security Science (CSS).
Objectives
The key two objectives of the group are the following:
Monitor and evaluate Technology development
Develop and evaluate components in real environments for Advance video surveillance and video analytic technology, in particular for the border control and protection, and other security applications.
Conducting surveys of state-of-art academic and commercial solutions
Access, elevate and report the technology readiness level (TRL) of technological components.
Develop evaluation methodology for testing academic and commercial video surveillance solutions
Advice the governments to develop their protection and invest in future and efficient video-surveillance and video-analytic technologies
Partnership developments and knowledge dissemination
Foster Government-Academia-Industry partnership and cooperation
Assist in analyzing and disseminating academic knowledge base for government research labs
Provide new opportunities for academia to work on real-life research challenges and problems that are of interest to the governments
Train highly qualified personal in the field of video processing and computer vision
