Vishal's Detailed Profile

    I am Vishal Jain, pursuing  MBA from Indian Institute of Management Lucknow (IIML). I am blessed with a very loving family. My courteous father Mohan Lal is a businessman and my devoted mother Badami Devi is a housewife. I had more than 90% eye sight during my childhood but it started deteriorating gradually due to Retinitis Pigmentosa as years went by. My elder siblings Amith and Rekha  also have the same problem. My brother Vineeth, a software engineer is our backbone, he helps  us in our education- updating our technical knowledge in computers and music and …. In fact even this website is developed by him. Till my 9th Standard, I was in a regular school managing pretty well. It was then that I started finding it difficult to manage my studies on my own. I could not pursue my academic education for The next three years due to reasons beyond my reach. Yet, those three years were fruitful in an another way. Instead of wasting my time I decided to take up intensive training in music and assist my father in his business.

    Since I hailed from Bellary which is a small town, I or my educational institution had no idea on how to handle my situation. We did not have knowledge about using a reader, scribe or technology to complete my High school. This is when chance brought me to Bangalore and I got in touch with Samarthanam. I went there with the intention of learning Computers, to use it  as a mechanism to contact the outside world. I was convinced by some of the volunteers that this same tool could be used to continue and complete my education. In the beginning though I had no idea on how to go about it, I decided to take the plunge. It was an enlightening period giving me a lot of confidence on my ability to handle the future with the help of volunteers and technology. I have secured an aggregate of 80% marks in both Tenth standard, Twelfth standard (from Mahaveer Jain College) and an aggregate of 76% in my graduation.

My aim is to become an entrepreneur and render service to the society.

What we get, has to be given back to the society. With this objective, I have initiated a few projects.

1. Founder member “Synergy” a self – help group for the visually challenged. It focuses upon creating awareness, counseling and guiding visually challenged people, facilitate arrangement for educational material in accessible form, etc.

2. Owner of “Linking Leads” an online platform using Yahoo Groups created to link the interested volunteers and needy students. Here students can post their requirements and interested volunteers come forward to help them.

3. Management of  this website with an objective to create awareness, at a global level, to both  - the physically challenged and general public regarding the facilities available for the betterment of the lives of the physically challenged.

4. Core member “Bhavishya” - the social initiatives committee of IIML. It’s activities include  child adoption and School adoption programs for improving quality of education, conducting classes for construction workers and their children, fund raising activities for needy organizations, creating synergy among NGOs, funding agencies and Corporate CSRs, etc.

Apart from studies and the above given projects, I am very much interested in learning new things in computers and musical instruments. I play 5 instruments, that is, Tabla, Dholak, Congo, Drums and Rhythm Pads. I got an opportunity to perform in USA. My Brother Amith Jain http://m.amith.googlepages.com who is also a visually challenged has also travelled to USA and UK as he plays Keyboard.

One of the best experience I ever had was to meet the former president of India - Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam.
