We recently made our first visit to Rainmaker Conservation Park. There we enjoyed the 4 km loop trail through the rainforest. There was some altitude gain, but the view at the top was well worth it! We loved all the suspension bridges, as well as the waterfalls and pools. Just the thing after a hot hike. Of course, we had to jump in the pools and stand under the waterfalls to cool off. Brrrrr! This time, we chose to hike without a guide, but next time we think we'll try one. We could hear all sorts of birds throughout the hike - they are really amazingly LOUD, and were rewarded near the end of the hike with a view of a toucan.
This private park is located a short drive from the house. Take Highway 34 towards Quepos. Shortly before Pocares, watch for a sign for Rainmaker Park, turn left and follow the road toward the mountains for 7 kms. The road is well marked. It is well worth the entry fee to have the trail maintained so well. I can only imagine how challenging it must be to keep it up.
Hiking attire is encouraged, though not entirely essential. One of us was not well prepared, and did the hike in flip flops. It worked fine, though we got some evil stares from some of the other ultra geared-up visitors. Think of how much more difficult it would be to hop in those pools and stand under those waterfalls if we had worn hiking boots! Pura vida!
