Monkeys at Manuel Antonio National Park

We visited Manuel Antonio the other day, and were rewarded with some amazing animal sightings. It pays to use a guide at Manuel Antonio. You will never see most of these animals by yourself. The guides have to pass rigorous coursework for their certification, and really know their stuff, including the latin name of every plant and animal. They are trained to spot the animals and birds, and seem to have x-ray vision. They can spot animals sleeping in the treetops where all normal mortals would see is leaves. They will train their spotting scope on the animal, and very often, you'll get to see it quite clearly. Amazing. You can take a group tour or a private tour. See our Resources section for further information.

On this visit, we had sightings of howler monkeys, capucin monkeys, two-toed and three-toed sloths, raccoons, spiders, frogs, and bats.

In these photos, clockwise starting at top left are capucin monkeys, a howler monkey, long nose bats and a three toed sloth.
