An alternative start and likely better one that I have already taken to this would be to hike up the beautiful Lauterbrunnen valley toward Stechelberg, this is very flat. Then take the breathtaking near vertical cable car up the cliff face (Gimmelwald (Schilthornbahn))

, then optionally a 2nd toward Mürren.

Griesalp, where we stayed at the Naturfreundehaus Gorneren. Cordial and attentive hosts, comfortable lodgings, excellent and abundant food, a quiet and relaxed atmosphere, and super views. There are only a few structures scattered in the Griesalp area, and not many visitors (nearly all of them hikers). We stayed two nights, and on our “rest day” we took a side day trip up to Gamchi, a very rustic mountain restaurant/farm in an isolated and spectacular cirque.
