The Red Sun system provides a great deal of resources to the 'Verse. It is dominated by Corrone Mining, although there are several prime agricultural worlds here as well. Roughly half the worlds in the Red Sun system are independent in some capacity, though most suffer from a great deal of outside interference by corporations and major political powers. Some worlds have a unified government, while others are highly fragmented. Many of the worlds in Red Sun were the site of large battles, both on land and in space, and still bear the scars.
Interplanetary Nations of Red Sun
Jiangyin Hegemony (Jiangyin), "The Hegemony", "Red Menace" - When Admiral Sutton was assassinated in 2521, his large naval force fragmented almost immediately under its admirals. A series of large naval battles left Red Sun split between two rival camps. The inner system was dominated by this group, which is now known as the Jiangyin Hegemony. Once a simple agricultural world largely untouched by the war, Jiangyin is now directly ruled by the admirals of the navy. It's population has exploded thanks to emigration from the Core, especially Sihnon's war-ravaged cities. Most of its needs are met by the other worlds of the Hegemony, or by mining in the Motherlode Belt. The Jiangyin Hegemony is a military state, though it it remains popular because of the stability it provides. The ruling junta is mostly non-ideological, willing to trade with any businesses who accept the many rules. The numerous restrictions on the citizenry have resulted in a sizable black market for offworld entertainments and consumer goods of various sorts. The Jiangyin Hegemony has good relations with the Union of Allied Worlds (Sihnon), but retains its independence because of conflicts between the technocratic naval officers who rule Jiangyin, and the Neo-Confucian elite of Sihnon.
Free League of Heinlein (Lazarus), "The League", "Hine Liners" - The Free League of Heinlein is composed of the four medium-population worlds orbiting the protostar Heinlein. During the war a moderately large naval squadron defected from Jiangyin, and offered protection to the four worlds in exchange for fealty. As a result, the system came under a single unified government centered on Lazarus. Though the government is military in nature, it limits itself to managing issues of law, defense, and interplanetary economics. Each individual world manages its own internal affairs. The Free League is involved in a Cold War of sorts with Jiangyin, which would like very much to extend its control to all of Red Sun. The Free League works to assist efforts on independent worlds to counter Jiangyin's influence, but often finds itself encountering friction from the various Browncoat worlds because of its background in the old Alliance military.
Divided Worlds of the Red Sun System
Harvest - Harvest is a low population breadbasket world, dominated by a typical former Alliance state called Grand Harvest. Its internal politics are a mess, thanks to foreign interference from both the Hegemony and the League, as well as from the great powers of White Sun. About a third of the seventy million inhabitants reside in one of the other minor states, including two Spanish-speaking coastal republics, an archipelago dominated by Somali and Ethiopian cities, and several independent landholds ruled under Persephonic Feudalism.
Grand Harvest - Average density confederacy of small farming communities with strict laws, Alliance demographics but socially conservative and conformist.
Mesa Roja - Average density republic with nearly nonexistent laws, founded by rebels from Rio Vallarto.
Rio Vallarto - Average density republic/oligarchy with strict laws, Spanish-speaking, repressive, and corrupt.
Abyssinian Confederation - Densely settled confederation of microstates with strict, religiously motivated laws.
Allied Baronies of Upper Cirenia - Sparsely settled Persephonic feudalism with average laws.
Anson's World - Anson's World is has a moderate population of the usual mix for a former Alliance world, but is politically divided among several successor states, all of which are in the process of splintering into ever more fractious smaller countries. They always tend to remain conventional republics with different ethnic and religious leanings, no matter their size. All agree that external influences are to be discouraged. They argue over matters of politics and control of resources, especially the limited surface water.
Ansonian Basin States - Sparsely settled chaotic confederacy with average laws. Named for the enormous river valley all of the settlements are located on, the various cities, towns, and villages are constantly reorganizing and shifting their boundaries. Oddly, enough social consensus remains on big issues that they have not come to blows, and those who encourage violence are usually run offworld.
Greenleaf - Greenleaf is not unified, but is instead divided among countless former "Alliance Member Settlements". It is a politically stable world, because of the distances between population centers - every community is nearly on its own. The nations of Greenleaf maintain cool but friendly relations with one another and are content to maintain a unified front on interplanetary issues. Every settlement sends a delegate to the Greenleaf Congress in the capital, this body votes only sporadically. While the settlements are relatively calm and safe, the vast jungles of Greenleaf are inhabited by drug barons, criminals, pirates, and worse... dinosaurs.
Greenleaf Settlements - Sparsely settled loose confederacy with generally lax laws.
