Interplanetary Nations of Georgia
Murphy Confederacy (Hera), "The ConFeds, The Browncoats" - Best described as a Browncoat Democracy, the Murphy Confederacy started off as a mutual defense pact among the fractious worlds of the proto-star Murphy. With events spiraling out of control in 2320, the worlds took the further step of both leaving the Alliance and unifying under a single government, albeit a loose one. With lax laws and a weak economy, the Murphy Confederacy has acquired a reputation as a smuggling and pirate haven. Despite this, several medium sized corporations have relocated their operations to Murphy, to take advantage of conditions there. Citizens of Murphy are infamous for being quarrelsome, independent, and heavily armed. Indeed, most civilian ships in the system are routinely armed as well. The biggest challenge faced by the government of Murphy is the opening of Shadow to settlement. There is considerable tension between those who remained on Shadow, refugees who relocated to Hera and Aphrodite, and the waves of new settlers from the core worlds devastated by the most recent war.
Divided Worlds of the Georgia System
Ezra - Ezra is divided politically. It is split between the formerly Alliance-member Republic of Ezra of about 15 million citizens and three smaller states, all former Alliance members. There is a cold war between agents of the Londies and the Centralists from White Sun, both attempting to reassert influence over these now independent states. This occasionally turns hot, but it generates good business for the various crime bosses who seek also to rule Ezra.
Republic of Ezra - Sparsely settled oligarchy with average laws, fairly typical post-Alliance population.
New Jaffna - Average density autocratic republic with average laws, South Asian (Sri Lankan) majority population.
Mekong Federation - Below average density confederation of microstates and cities, with strict laws, Viet, Lao, and Khmer majority population.
County of Haut-Alameda - Sparsely settled Persephonic aristocracy, with lenient laws but many dangerous customs.
Boros - Boros is balkanized, with numerous smaller states run as independent ethnic enclaves. These include settlers from West Africa, Eastern Europe, France, Germany, Ireland, and Kurdistan. Each one has between ten and twenty million citizens, and they now pursue numerous different political paths in the post-Alliance chaos. The Megacorp "Aqua Regio" got its start on Ariel, but moved en masse to a skyplex in the Boros system, where it is now plays a significant role in the local economy. Aqua Regio focuses on shipbuilding, cryogenics, space exploitation, life support systems, and astrogation technology. They also make a good income from hauling water ice to outlying colony world. Recently they expanded into banking and mass media, despite stout competition from more established firms like Orbus.
Obibi Ohuru - Sparsely settled ceremonial monarchy with lenient laws, mostly West African population.
Cherny Volgagrad - Densely settled totalitarian dictatorship with strict laws, Eastern Euro majority.
Sainte Augustine - Extremely densely settled Francophone monarchy with strict laws, high technology but relatively isolated.
Hochbaden - Average density republic with average laws, typical post-Alliance state dominated by Aqua Regio.
Derry - Extremely dense oligarchy with average laws, Gaelic majority population.
New Kirkuk - Sparsely settled ethnic Kurdish military dictatorship with average laws.
New Hope - Politically speaking, New Hope is an oddity. The predominant planetary government is an old, long-lasting military dictatorship. The remaining people of New Hope live in a half-dozen independent republics, all of which are also former Alliance members. The surface of New Hope is tense, despite all governments being Alliance members and supporters.
Xin Xiwang People's Socialist Republic - 55 million people live under the despotic rule of the ruling junta, which survives primarily because it is heavily armed and centralized. It is a backwards, xenophobic state, with a primitive agrarian economy and almost no ties to the outside world, save to the Jiangyin Hegemony, which it counts as an unreliable ally.
New Hope Confederation - This is a mutual defense and trade organization linking the six former Alliance member states, now independent republics. It exists almost solely as a counterbalance between them and the XXPSR. It survives only through the support of the "Heinleiner League" of Red Sun, which shares some sympathetic political views. Internally, the constituent states are fierce rivals, with plenty of competition and bad blood due to the dirty politics of the Alliance years.
