Lakota Armed CourierThese ships were used for transport of high-profile cargos and special forces teams in Alliance service during the Unification War, and are built fast enough to run from most fights and just tough enough to handle pirates and small vessels. The armament is substantial for such a small ship, though somewhat outdated and outclassed by more modern designs. They are not warships, but have been pressed into service as such on many occasions by all major factions. In 2525, most Lakota's are getting pretty worn out, though they are still manufactured in a few places. The presence of a Lakota in private hands will not usually merit the notice of most people in a starport. The Lakota is unusual in that it has four smaller pulse engines instead of a single large one; the designers intended this to increase fuel economy and reliability, but that didn't pan out. It does allow the ship to be refitted with engines taken from smaller vessels, which does allow for easier frontier maintenance at the cost of a more complex engineering setup. The outer engines are aerospikes used for atmospheric maneuvering. They are mounted on large gimbals, allowing them to be used for VTOL landings in conjunction with several smaller thrusters along the lower hull.
