Working with plant genomics data? You might want to have a look at this book which I edited: Plant Genomics Databases. It contains practical introductions to a variety of relevant databases, written by the people who create and maintain them. I also wrote one chapter, in which I give a couple of tips on using genome sequence databases. In case you use blast but don't know how to interpret an E-value.... have a look!
