Background
I am professor in "Data Analysis in the Life Sciences" at the University of Amsterdam. Before (from 2006-2023) I worked at Wageningen University, amongst others at the Bioinformatics group and at the Chair of Mathematical and Statistical Methods. My research involves systems biology, mathematical modelling and statistical analysis of networks, and (bioinformatics) analysis of protein and DNA sequences. Currently I focus a lot on machine learning, including e.g. predicting properties of proteins using their structures.
I did my PhD at Utrecht University from 2002-2006; my thesis deals with computational methods to predict how proteins bind to each other.Â
