In May, 2015 10 students from UPA will travel to Washington DC to participate in a study program with the Close Up Foundation. This is our 6th annual trip! We have already secured a scholarship for $500 for each student, and the families of the students are also contributing, but in order for this trip to happen, we must raise an additional $600 per student.

One month before our 2010 trip, UPA kids met with Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums. This has been a tradition every year of this trip!
UPA is an Oakland public middle school in the heart of the Fruitvale neighborhood. 90% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Most of the students going on this trip are first or second generation Americans and will be the first in their family to go to college. This trip will certainly make a profound impact on each student, their families, our school, and our community. Funds that we raise above what is needed for this trip will help make additional learning experiences beyond the classroom available to UPA kids (such as environmental education, College trips, and arts integration. )
