This article estimates peer effects in educational achievement at the level of junior high school sin France. It estimates both endogenous and exogenous peer effects using Lee's method, based on group size variation. This is made possible by the size of the data, which cover 120,000 classrooms and about three millions students, which alleviates the problem raised by the slow convergence of the estimator. Endogenous sorting and correlated effects problem can be solved thanks to classroom fixed effect. We find a rather large and precisely estimated endogenous effect. We find large but implausible exogenous effects.
