Hareshbhai Manodhiya
Hello,
My name is Hareshbhai, I live in Bhujodi village along with my wife. I started weaving when I was 15 years old. I learned traditional weaving from my father. Until now I was weaving Rabari blankets along with my father but unfortunately that type of work decreased due to the change in society and fashion among local communities. This is why I started working for some master artisans in my village. I learnt a lot from the other weavers of my village and now being a part of United Artisans of Kutch, I have more freedom to develop my own designs, products and sell it straight to my customers. For us (many weavers) it is not easy to get connected with our customers as most of the business is controlled by some big shops, artisans and other platforms/channels. However, in the last few years I have started selling my scarves to some visitors who visit my work place. I have successfully finished a few international orders (blankets and scarves). Now I'm investing my profit in my own collection and recently (2017) I have started using Natural dyed yarn in weaving to give more natural value to my products.
Being a part of UAK team, I am earning my living without being dependent on shops/big businesses who used to provide us yarn, designs and pay wages depending on the amount of work we do for them.
Please have a look at my products in the tab "Products" and visit my work if you are in Bhujodi village. By the way, I also like to sing Folk Songs (Aaradhi Vani) and I'll be happy to sing songs for you :)
Thank you.
Watch my "Story Telling Piece" that I made during lockdown in India. It took 29 days to make this piece, describing various hand loom weaving steps through story telling. Hope you'd like it. Thanks. https://youtu.be/Y2zMtVFqI1Y
