Anwarbhai Block Carving

Block printing is quite popular in Gujarat, Rajasthan and every year thousands of visitors are visiting various block printers and their workshops, however not many get a chance to reach the Block Carvers.

Anwarbhai lives near a railway station in Bhuj, on his own, age-60 something who cannot work without smoking 'bidi' and he enjoys a messy workplace while working. He wants to teach someone his skill of block carving so when he dies, someone can continue block carving and remember him as his/her teacher. He is a really interesting person to meet if you get the chance. One of his biggest dream was to wear perfume from overseas which was fulfilled by Momoca and Kati visitors of UAK who brought him some perfumes as gift :)

I hope this video clip will give you a glimpse of wood carving and hopefully the world will support remaining wooden block carvers. Please Share this clip and support one of the last remaining carvers to reach his potential customers, students or designers who are interested in block printing.

Thanks and greetings!
