My name is Sameer Luhar. I am from Zura village (Kutch). I lost my father so early that I started making bells when I was only 14 years old. Of course I couldn't study enough, having need to work and earn money to support my family.
There are nearly 40 to 50 bell makers in Kutch and most of them are working for a wholesale buyers which is keeping us continuing our traditional bell making craft.
My forefathers used to make bells for local cattle herders but now most of our buyers are from urban areas who are using these bells and other articles for a home decor and gifts.
Handmade bells is time consuming and laborious craft but soothing sounds of bells makes it worthy for us (the makers) and also for our customers.
I am proud member of United Artisans of Kutch since 2018 and trying to reach out my potentials in the world of handicrafts.
Zura village where we hardly gets visitors is slowly becoming known among conscious tourists who are looking forward to visit lesser known artisans like myself.
If you are interested in seeing how we make a bell, you can visit me and my family in person in Zura village if you are visiting Kutch.
