PSYCHOLOGY of ART Course – WORK PROTOCOL
WRITTEN WORK (in a group or individually for "special students" who wish so)
Content:
-the theme of the work will be the psychology of a given artistic domain (depending on the distribution across the various domains - done in the 1st class)
-the content of the work should be an interpretative summary and cross-analysis of information consulted in references of psychology of the chosen artistic domain (check below "supporting references”), with emphasis on the psychological phenomena described in these references and not a general review of the literature on the psychology of the chosen artistic domain.
-the content should omit the presentation of speculation on the subject.
-all the references consulted should be confined to the psychology of art - excluding references from other disciplinary areas (art history, aesthetics, art criticism) or dealing with the subject of psychology in the arts.
-the text must be original (summary in your own words) - being considered plagiarism (and not accepted): copying of consulted texts (with the exception of short quotations from original texts, with indication/citation of the respective source reference, in bold); and the transcription of text produced by artificial intelligence.
- all the information presented must be based on the consulted references and must be accompanied by the correspondent citations, in bold (e.g., "one of the most significant psychological phenomena in the appreciation of painting is the tendency to ..." (Gombrich, 1987) . ")
Structure:
-the work must comprise: a cover (with the title, full names of group elements, date, name of faculty and university); an index; an introduction, authored by the group (presenting the theme of the work and the content of each section/sub-theme of the body of work); a body of work (with different sections/sub-themes – each section/sub-theme authored and signed by each member of the group); a conclusion, authored by the group (which relates the content of the various sections and tries to provide an overall picture of the information on the theme); a list of bibliographic references consulted (according to the APA standards)
-the text must flow and concatenate, relating the information presented - not a cluster of topics in the form of a list.
Extension:
-if in group about 30 pages and if individual about 10 pages (font: Times Roman 12, space between lines: 1,5, margins: 2,5)
-cover, index and references: 1 page each
-introduction and conclusion: about 2 pages each
-sections: about 5 pages each
-references: those cited in the text, with line spacing of 1
Delivery:
-the written work must be delivered, until the agreed deadline, by e-mail, to amduarte@psicologia.ulisboa.pt with the title: PsychArtisticDomain (example: PsychMusic)
PRESENTATION at CLASSROOM
In Group Presentations Folder make a copy of “Presentation Template” to the same folder (by placing the cursor over it, clicking the right mouse button, and selecting "copy" the copy should automatically appear in the same folder);

Elaborate the presentation according to the instructions in the copied template;
Rehearse the presentation before the class, and ensure it is clear and doesn’t exceed 15 mins;
Save also the presentation externally as a backup (that in case of need, can be used in the class);
Present in class, assuring it is clear and doesn’t exceed 15 mins.

Supporting References (to be selected by each group)
-a set of potential useful e-references for the written work are on the "Online References" page of the In-Depth Website. It is up to each group to check the relevance and select the references that interest them from this set, according to the sub-themes chosen for the work.
-other references are searchable on the Internet (mainly on Google Scholars), on the In-Depth Website, and in the Library (section "Psicologia da Arte", and Online Search for Books and Journals [mainly: "Empirical Studies of the Arts"; "Psychology of Aesthetics, Creativity, and the Arts"].
-the use of references in addition to those available on the In-Depth Website is valued.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Works that include writing performed (which is monitored for this purpose) by Artificial Intelligence will not be accepted.
